According to the Humane Society International, approximately 30 million dogs and 10 million cats are slaughtered worldwide annually for human consumption. Countries where this occurs include: China, Switzerland (where cats are cooked for Christmas dinners), Nigeria, India, South Korea, Thailand, and Cambodia. The practice is part of deep-rooted cultural norms not dissimilar to those in western nations that make it acceptable to eat highly intelligent animals with the capacity to suffer such as pigs, cows and chickens.
